DeSantis leading Trump 42% to 30%, with many GOP voters desiring a fresh face

As former President Donald Trump ramps up his campaign activity ahead of the 2024 Republican presidential calendar, he finds himself trailing Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida in the early-voting state of New Hampshire, according to a new poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire.

More than 8 in 10 Americans approve of the appointment of a special counsel to investigate classified documents found at President Joe Biden’s Delaware residence and an office he used after serving as vice president, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS. 

Three national polls released this month show former President Trump holds a double-digit lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a hypothetical 2024 Republican presidential primary.

Today, a majority of Americans agree that the sudden, rapid growth from COVID-related spending and burgeoning top-down control over the domestic economy to address climate change have put U.S. on a path toward socialism.

In a new Siena Poll released Monday, 59 percent of registered voters said that the embattled Republican from New York’s 3rd Congressional District should resign. Only about 20 percent said he shouldn’t, and the rest didn’t have an opinion. Even a plurality of Republicans, 49 percent, said he should step down (another 26 percent he shouldn’t and 25 percent didn’t know).

It's no surprise that many voters are turned off by the political class these days. As repeated polls show, voters from both parties agree that the results of recent years from Washington have been less than stellar. And the voters feel Washington is divorced from their everyday concerns.

America is not in an official recession — not yet, anyway — but the Conference Board’s Leading Economic Index declined for the 10th consecutive month, falling in December by 1% to 110.5, according to a report released Monday by the business think tank. Economists were expecting a decline of 0.7%, according to Refinitiv.
